2008 "SILVER EAGLE" CHARDONNAY - RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY
This unique hillside vineyard, planted on "Wente" cloned vines, rises high above the fog line, yet still benefits from the maritime breezes that cool the hot summer afternoon sun of Sonoma County. The combination of hot days and marine influenced afternoons and nights, helps to achieve a long, slow ripening growing season limiting the risk of over-ripe flavors in the grapes, which can translate into the wine. The vines grow in "Goldridge" soil, a sandstone of loam from early volcanic eruptions, allowing the soil around the vine to drain quickly, but yet retain some moisture. The soil, the slope and the terrain are "book-perfect" for Chardonnay along with the Valdez Family passion for the vineyards. It's a trilogy in a bottle.
